Milk Bar Mag spoke with Anna Renzenbrink on Understudided, a tongue in cheek drama about the perils many aspiring actors in the 1950s. Understudied: Tales From The Hollywood Backlot Screened at the Korean Film Festival 2019 Sun-Ho’s charming, but pragmatic approach to life, along with Ji-Woo’s immaturity and childish innocence, blend together delightfully in this story of unlikely friendship.įor those looking for a movie with joy, pain and tension, Innocent Witness is the one that has it all. Innocent Witness at a glance might seem like your stereotypical Korean crime drama, but after a closer viewing is a wonderful, and elegantly told tale about two rare individuals. Although I would usually prefer more involved technical skills with other films, I found myself happily enjoying the basics with this one, and instead investing myself more in the storyline. Airbrushed skin tones, pastel colour boards, and blue skies all around are usually the go-to in these types of movies. As previously stated, Innocent Witness has a distinctive Korean vibe to its cinematography and aesthetic. Overall this movie doesn’t garner much outside of its plot, or within its technical realms for audience members. While this film does place its attention predominantly on Sun-Ho’s redemptive journey, it’s the juxtaposition between his hyper-focused attitude and Ji-Woo’s endearing clumsiness that provides viewers with such a charming tale. Subtle eye movements, the way she holds her body, the inflection of her voice and the many other traits she embedded into the character, allows us as the audience to better understand the distinctive design of her personality. Kim’s depiction of Ji-Woo’s sensitive but highly intelligent personality is utterly mind-blowing. The slow development of Sun-Ho’s character as he delves further into the case, and his budding relationship with Ji-Woo throughout the film’s 129-minute runtime, is a soft crescendo that allows viewers to fully enjoy the quirks of their relationship.Īt its core, it is the extraordinary acting by both Jung Woo-Sung and Kim Hyang-Gi as the protagonists that breathes life into this movie. When I initially heard the premise, I was truly unprepared for the touching and enigmatic ride that I was about to go on. While it has that familiar Korean flair in terms of editing and music, the storyline is truly where this movie shines beyond the rest. As Sun-Ho continues to investigate the mysterious circumstances around his client, he finds himself growing closer to the girl, and is soon conflicted with their confrontations in court.Īs a general consensus Innocent Witness is extremely well-written, and an exceptionally directed film. His lead witness, Ji-Woo, an autistic teenager with acute hearing and communication difficulties, struggles with clear-cut answers throughout the trial. However, as his newest case arises, it is clear that nothing is as it seems. An elevated section of the Alaska Pipeline. Pipelines and rail cars use about double that pressure to pump at 250 psi (1,700 kPa). EG: Propane will convert from a gas to a liquid under light pressure, 100 psi, give or take depending on temperature, and is pumped into cars and trucks at less than 125 psi (860 kPa) at retail stations. Propane can be used as a fuel in oil fields to heat various facilities used by the oil drillers or equipment and trucks used in the oil patch. Small NGL processing facilities can be located in oil fields so the butane and propane liquid under light pressure of 125 pounds per square inch (860 kPa), can be shipped by rail, truck or pipeline. Natural gas (and similar gaseous fuels) are lightly pressurized into liquids known as Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs). (23% are by ship, 4% by truck, and 3% by rail) In Canada for natural gas and petroleum products, 97% are shipped by pipeline. In the United States, 70% of crude oil and petroleum products are shipped by pipeline. Trucking has even higher costs due to the additional labor required employment on completed pipelines represents only "1% of that of the trucking industry.". For example, in 2014, pipeline transport of crude oil cost about $5 per barrel, while rail transport cost about $10 to $15 per barrel. Pipelines are generally the most economical way to transport large quantities of oil, refined oil products or natural gas over land. Credit for the development of pipeline transport belongs indisputably to the Oil Transport Association, which first constructed a 2-inch (51 mm) wrought iron pipeline over a 6-mile (9.7 km) track from an oil field in Pennsylvania to a railroad station in Oil Creek, in the 1860s. It is certain when the first crude oil pipeline was built. Michelson, Hendrik Lorentz, and Henri Poincare among others, contributed to what would ultimately transform theoretical physics and astronomy, the scientist credited with compiling and describing the theory of relativity and the Lorenz Transformation was Albert Einstein. While many scientists, including Ernst Mach, Albert A. Despite Leibniz's efforts, this Newtonian concept of physics remained prevalent for nearly two centuries. He argued that absolute space was necessary in order to account for cases where a relationalist perspective could not fully explain an object's rotation and acceleration. Since this example showed that the concavity of the water was not based on an interaction between the bucket and the water, Newton claimed that the water was rotating in relation to a third entity, absolute space. If the bucket's rotation is then stopped, the water remains concave during the period it continues to spin. In this argument, water in a bucket hanging stationary from a rope begins with a flat surface, which becomes concave as the water and bucket are made to spin. One of the prominent arguments that arose from the correspondence between Newton's spokesman Samuel Clarke and Leibniz is referred to as the bucket argument, or Newton's bucket. It is simply the way in which humans subjectively perceive and sequence the objects, events, and experiences accumulated throughout their lifetimes. Within this argument, known as relational time, time itself cannot be measured. According to Leibniz, time is nothing more than a concept similar to space and numbers that allows humans to compare and sequence events. Newton's realist view is sometimes referred to as Newtonian time.Ĭontrary to Newton's assertions, Leibniz believed that time only makes sense in the presence of objects with which it can interact. Relative time on the other hand, is what humans actually perceive and is a measurement of "duration" through the motion of objects, such as the sun and the moon. He argued that absolute time exists and flows without any regard to external factors, and called this "duration." According to Newton, absolute time can only be understood mathematically, since it is imperceptible. In Newton's Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, Newton tackled the concepts of space and time as absolutes. Aristotle's view is solely one amongst many in the discussion of time, the most controversial of which began with Sir Isaac Newton, and Gottfried Leibniz. Interestingly, he was also one of the first people, if not the first person, to frame the idea that time existing of two different kinds of non-existence makes time existing at all, questionable. He also believed that time was infinite and continuous, and that the universe always did, and always will exist. One of the earlier views was presented by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BC), who defined time as "a number of movement in respect of the before and after." Essentially, Aristotle's view of time defined it as a measurement of change requiring the existence of some kind of motion or change. There exist various concepts of time that have been postulated by different philosophers and scientists over an extensive period of human history. The Dell Alienware AW3423DW is an amazing 34-inch gaming monitor with a QD-OLED panel that delivers a near-instantaneous response time, resulting in crystal-clear motion with no noticeable blur behind fast-moving objects. There are some 38-inch models available for gaming too, but this size isn't as popular as 34-inch monitors. Most ultrawide monitors have a 34-inch screen size with a 3440x1440 resolution and offer the same screen height as a 27-inch screen but with more horizontal screen space. Ultrawides in this size are best suited for immersive games as you can see more of your game simultaneously. If you're looking for a bigger screen size than 32 inches, you'll have to get an ultrawide monitor with a 34 or 38-inch screen size. Those with a 4k resolution tend to be designed with console gamers in mind, as they have HDMI 2.1 bandwidth to take full advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This monitor size is growing in popularity, and you can find plenty of options, as they're mainly available with 1440p or 4k resolutions. If you want something even bigger than a 27-inch monitor, a 32-inch display might be the best gaming monitor size for your needs, as it offers more screen real estate while maintaining the 16:9 aspect ratio. While it isn't a big concern for gamers, there are other LED-backlit options you can get, like the LG 27GP950-B or the INNOCN 27M2V, which features Mini LED technology, but it can also be hard to find at times.Īlso, check out our recommendations for the best 27-inch gaming monitors. The LG 27GR95QE-B is a fantastic 27-inch gaming monitor with high-end features. This size is good if you want more screen space than a 24 or 25-inch monitor and find that 32-inch screens are too big. 27-inch monitors are also available with different refresh rates, although there aren't as many high refresh rate options as with 24 or 25-inch monitors. You can find anything from basic 1080p to high-resolution 4k screens, although the most common resolution with this size is 1440p. With the next size up, 27-inch monitors are some of the most popular displays, and options are available for nearly any type of gamer. However, it is an expensive monitor, so if you prefer saving money, the 360Hz Dell Alienware AW2523HF and the 240Hz ViewSonic XG2431 are great alternatives.Īlso, check out our recommendations for the best 24-25 inch monitors. It has native G-SYNC variable refresh rate (VRR) support to reduce screen tearing, and it has features that you can only get with NVIDIA graphics cards, like the NVIDIA Reflex Latency Analyzer, which measures the latency of your entire setup. The Dell Alienware AW2524H is a great 25-inch gaming monitor with a remarkably fast 500Hz refresh rate and incredibly smooth motion handling. Gaming options in this size tend to have high refresh rates with a 1080p resolution, which makes it easier for your graphics card to hit high frame rates. Getting a monitor in this size is ideal if you don't have a ton of desk space, and the smaller screen is also helpful if you want to see everything within your field of vision and not have to move your eyes too much. While there are some portable gaming monitors if you want a small screen to use on the go, the smallest desktop monitors you can get for gaming mainly have 24 or 25-inch screen sizes. the only thing i can fault this film for is that the animators changed the ending from a sad or bittersweet ending to a happy one. the tin soldier himself isn't all that impressive, but the ballerina and the jack-in-the-box are amazing creations, among the most effective characters disney has ever created. the characters in this segment are beautifully made. now, i see how wonderful this segment really is and how the computer animation works within the beautiful cell animation. "Piano Concerto #2, Allegro, Opus 102" (The Steadfast Tin Soldier) - again, when i first saw the film, I was annoyed at their use of computer animation. This was one of my favorites the first time i saw the film, and it remains so now. it is incredible to see animators create a microcosm of a Robert Altman film as a silent film. Disney here forgot its attempts at realism and just went for charicatures. First off, this is a great piece of music and one of the most unique pieces of animation i have seen. "Rhapsody in Blue" - several stories of unhappy people are told and intersect in New York City. it turns out to be one of the most beautiful and miraculous pieces of animation ever created. the story is also probably the best of them all. now i feel that this is maybe the best segment of the film. watching it again, i now love the way the cgi whales move and look against the cell animated backgrounds. personally, computer animation used in an animated film always made me cringe. i actually disliked this segment when i first saw the film last january. "Pines of Rome" - a family of whales fly around in the air. it is possibly the single most famous piece of music ever written. possibly the greatness and familiarity of the music diminishes the segment's overall power. the segment as a whole may be one of the weakest, but it is very beautiful. this segment did not impress me at all when i originally saw the film, but seeing it again, i am able to appreciate the pastel artistry (the DVD provides a lot of insight on to how difficult it was to create this segment). "Symphony #5" - the battle between good and evil with colorful abstract triangles, unmistakably based on butterflies, being attacked by black triangles in an ethereal setting. i will go over and rate and criticize each segment now: 1. it is by far one of the most interesting disney projects ever, probably the best and most unique since the original Fantasia. now, watching it for the second time, i realize just how amazing it was. but for some reason, when it was announced that it would be released on DVD, my interest sparked again, and I got it. I liked it quite a bit then, but never thought about it much. I was lucky enough to see it on the IMAX screen. Fantasia 2000 has really been screwed over since it was released in January of the year 2000.
